Google Classroom – Teacher Setup & Resources

Modified on Sat, 24 Oct at 5:35 PM

Google Classroom provides teachers with tools to organize class materials, communicate with students, manage assignments, and support classroom instruction.

This guide covers commonly requested Google Classroom features for PBSD teachers, including Google Meet links, guardian email summaries, and restoring archived classes.

Before You Begin

Sign in to Google Classroom using your PBSD district Google account. Open the class you want to manage before following the instructions below.

1. Google Meet Links

Google Classroom can provide a Google Meet link associated with an individual class. Teachers can manage whether the link is available to students.

Enable a Google Meet Link

  1. Open Google Classroom.
  2. Select the class you want to manage.
  3. Click the Settings gear icon.
  4. Locate the Meet section.
  5. If needed, select the option to generate a Meet link.
  6. Enable the option to make the Meet link visible to students, if appropriate.
  7. Save your changes.
Important: Enable Meet Links for Each Class

Google Meet link settings are managed individually for each Google Classroom. Enabling a Meet link in one class does not automatically enable it in your other classes.

Reset a Google Meet Link

If you need to generate a new Meet link for a class, follow the existing PBSD step-by-step tutorial.

2. Enable Guardian Email Summaries

Google Classroom supports guardian email summaries that can provide parents and guardians with information about their student's Classroom activity.

Depending on the settings enabled by the district, these summaries may include missing work, upcoming assignments, and class activity.

PBSD Scribe Tutorial: Enable Guardian Access

Follow the existing PBSD instructions to enable guardian email summaries for a Google Classroom class.

Guardian Access Reminder

Guardian email summaries are different from student access to Google Classroom. They do not automatically provide guardians with full access to a student's assignments or the classroom itself.

3. Restore an Archived Google Classroom

If a class was archived accidentally, or you need to restore an archived class for continued use, follow these steps.

  1. Go to Google Classroom.
  2. Click the main menu icon in the upper-left corner.
  3. Scroll down and select Archived classes.
  4. Locate the class you want to restore.
  5. Click the three-dot menu on the class card.
  6. Select Restore.

The restored class should appear again on your main Google Classroom dashboard.
