Overview

Cengage is a digital learning platform used by Plum Borough School District to provide online course materials and instructional resources for selected courses. Teachers manage their courses in Cengage and can connect them to Google Classroom for student access and rostering.

Available Courses

Plum Borough School District currently provides access to Cengage content for:

  • American Government: Institutions and Policies, 17th AP Edition
  • Century 21 Accounting: General Journal
  • Introduction to Comparative Politics – AP Update
  • Personal Financial Literacy

Teacher Access

Teachers must be invited to the Cengage platform before they can access district-licensed content.

  1. Accept the Cengage invitation sent to your account.
  2. Create your Cengage credentials when prompted.
  3. Sign in to Cengage using your account credentials.
  4. Locate your assigned course.

Course Setup: Your course may already exist in Cengage. If you do not see the course you need, contact PBSD Technology Support at  techsupport@pbsd.net  for assistance.

Linking Your Course to Google Classroom

Once your Cengage course is available, PBSD recommends linking it to Google Classroom for easier student access and roster management.

  1. Sign in to Cengage and open the appropriate course.
  2. Locate the course sharing options.
  3. Choose Link to Google Classroom.
  4. Follow the prompts to select and connect the appropriate Google Classroom.

Recommended: Use Link to Google Classroom whenever possible. Cengage also provides a Course URL & Course Key option that can be shared directly with students.

Student Access

Students can access their Cengage course using the method provided by their teacher.

  • Google Classroom – Preferred method. Students open the Cengage link provided through their Google Classroom.
  • Registration URL & Course Key – Students use the registration link and course key provided by their teacher.

Login Information: Teachers and students should use their PBSD Google account when accessing Google Classroom and any connected Cengage course resources.

Common Issues

Teacher Does Not See a Course

  • Verify that you accepted your Cengage invitation and completed account setup.
  • Confirm that you are signed in to the correct Cengage account.
  • If the course is missing, contact Technology Support for course setup assistance.

Student Cannot Access the Course

  • Verify that the student is using the correct PBSD Google account.
  • If using Google Classroom, confirm that the student is enrolled in the correct class.
  • If using a Course Key, confirm that the student received the correct registration URL and key.

Important: Teachers must have access to the correct Cengage course before students can be connected through Google Classroom or a Course Key.
