Google Classroom – Student & Family Guide

Modified on Sat, 24 Oct at 5:33 PM

Google Classroom is an online learning platform that teachers may use to share assignments, class materials, announcements, and feedback with students.

This guide helps PBSD students access Google Classroom, navigate their classes, and locate schoolwork. Families can also use these instructions to help their children.

Before You Begin

Students should sign in using their PBSD district Google account. Google Classroom courses and assignments are associated with the student's school account.

1. How to Sign In to Google Classroom

  1. Open Google Chrome on your device.
  2. In the address bar, enter classroom.google.com.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. If prompted, sign in using your PBSD district Google account.
  5. Google Classroom will display the classes associated with your account.
  6. Select the class you would like to open.

2. Find Your Classes

After signing in, Google Classroom displays the classes you are enrolled in.

  1. Open Google Classroom.
  2. Review the classes displayed on the home page.
  3. Click the class you want to access.
  4. Use the class navigation options to view announcements and assignments.
Missing a Class?

If an expected class is not displayed, first confirm that you are signed in with your district Google account. If the class is still missing, contact your teacher for assistance.

3. Navigate Google Classroom

Within a class, students may see several sections depending on how the teacher has configured the course.

  • Stream: View class announcements and updates.
  • Classwork: Find assignments, questions, and learning materials.
  • People: View available teacher and class information.

Teachers may organize assignments by topic, unit, or another instructional category.

4. Find and Complete Assignments

  1. Open the appropriate Google Classroom course.
  2. Select the Classwork tab.
  3. Locate the assignment you need to complete.
  4. Click the assignment to review your teacher's instructions.
  5. Open any attached documents or resources.
  6. Complete the required work.
  7. Follow your teacher's instructions to submit the assignment.

Some assignments require students to attach a document, complete an activity, or select Turn in or Mark as done. The available options depend on the assignment.

Important: Check Your Submission

After completing an assignment, verify that it has been submitted successfully. Simply opening or editing an assignment does not always submit it to your teacher.

5. Review Feedback and Grades

Teachers may provide comments, feedback, or grades through Google Classroom.

  1. Open the appropriate class.
  2. Navigate to the assignment or classwork area.
  3. Select the assignment you want to review.
  4. Check for teacher comments, feedback, or grades if available.

Not all assignments will display a grade immediately. Contact your teacher if you have questions about an assignment or feedback.

6. Information for Families

Families can help students stay organized by encouraging them to review Google Classroom regularly and monitor upcoming assignments.

Helpful ways to support your child include:

  • Encourage your child to check Google Classroom for updates.
  • Review upcoming assignments and due dates together.
  • Remind your child to submit completed work.
  • Contact the classroom teacher with assignment-related questions.
Family Access Reminder

Students access their classes using their district Google accounts. Family access and notification options may differ from student access and depend on the features enabled by the district and classroom teacher.
