How to Report Suspicious or Phishing Emails

Modified on Sat, 24 Oct at 4:14 PM

Protecting district accounts, information, and technology resources is a shared responsibility.

All Plum Borough School District (PBSD) staff and students should report suspicious or phishing emails promptly. Reporting these messages helps the Technology Department identify potential threats and protect district systems.

Received a Suspicious Email?

Do not panic. Simply opening an email does not automatically mean your account has been compromised.

Avoid clicking links, opening attachments, replying, or entering personal information. Report the message using one of the methods below.

1. What to Do When You Receive a Suspicious Email

  1. Do not click links or attachments. Avoid interacting with anything in the message.
  2. Do not provide account information. Never enter your district password or other sensitive information into an unexpected form.
  3. Report the email. Use KnowBe4 or Gmail's built-in reporting tools as described below.
  4. Contact Technology Support if needed. If you clicked a suspicious link, opened an attachment, or entered information, notify the Technology Department immediately.
Important: Already Clicked Something?

If you clicked a suspicious link, opened an unexpected attachment, or entered your username, password, or other information:

Contact PBSD Technology Support immediately:  techsupport@pbsd.net

Include a brief description of what happened so the Technology Department can help determine the appropriate next steps.

2. Option 1: Report Using KnowBe4

PBSD provides a KnowBe4 reporting option for identifying and reporting suspicious emails.

Follow the illustrated instructions in the guide below to report an email through KnowBe4.

4. Common Signs of a Suspicious Email

Be cautious of emails that:

  • Ask you to urgently verify your account or password.
  • Contain unexpected attachments or unfamiliar links.
  • Request personal, financial, or district account information.
  • Appear to come from a familiar person but contain unusual requests.
  • Pressure you to act immediately or keep a request secret.

A suspicious email may look legitimate. If you are unsure, report it rather than interacting with the message.

5. Need Assistance?

PBSD Technology Support

If you are uncertain whether an email is legitimate, need help reporting it, or have interacted with a suspicious message, contact the Technology Department.
