Overview
Plum Borough School District uses Salto electronic door locks to help secure classrooms, offices, and other areas throughout the district.
Staff members are issued HID badges that provide access to district doors based on their assigned permissions. In addition to the standard HID badge, many staff members have—or will receive—a Salto credential, sometimes referred to as a puck, attached to the back of their badge.
The Salto credential allows your badge to communicate with Salto-controlled doors. Your HID badge and Salto credential work together, so you should continue carrying and using your badge as usual.

Salto Credential Updates
For security purposes, Salto credentials must be periodically updated.
Important: Staff must check in at a Salto update reader at least once every 30 days. If your credential is not updated within the required period, it may stop providing access to Salto-controlled doors until it is updated again.
Salto Update Reader Locations
High School
- Man Trap near Door 48
- Hallway outside the Security Vestibule Entrance
Middle School
- Inside Door 5/6
- Inside Door 18
Note: Additional Salto update reader locations may be added as the system expands throughout the district.
How to Update Your Salto Badge
- Locate a Salto update reader in your building.
- Present your badge to the reader.
- Keep your badge against the reader while it processes the update.
- Wait for the reader to turn green.
- Once the reader turns green, the update is complete and your Salto credential will remain active for another 30 days.
Tip: Do not remove your badge from the update reader until you receive the green confirmation.

Using a Salto-Controlled Door
- Present your badge to the Salto reader on the door.
- Wait for the reader to indicate that access has been granted.
- Open the door.
Access Information: Your ability to open a particular door depends on the access permissions assigned to your badge. Not every staff badge will open every Salto-controlled door.
Using Office Mode
Some Salto-controlled doors support Office Mode. Office Mode allows an authorized staff member to leave a door unlocked during normal use without requiring each person to present a badge when entering.
Enable Office Mode – Leave the Door Unlocked
- Present your badge to the Salto reader.
- Continue holding your badge at the reader.
- Wait until the reader blinks green twice.
- Remove your badge.
- The door will remain unlocked for normal entry.
Disable Office Mode – Return the Door to Locked Mode
- Present your badge to the Salto reader.
- Continue holding your badge at the reader.
- Wait until the reader blinks red twice.
- Remove your badge.
- The door will return to locked mode. Authorized users will need to present their badges to enter.
