Keeping your Plum Borough School District Chromebook updated helps maintain security, improve performance, and ensure compatibility with district applications and learning resources.
Follow the instructions below to check for and install available ChromeOS updates on your Chromebook.
Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi and, if possible, plug it into its charger. Save any open work before installing updates or restarting your device.
Step 1: Open Chromebook Settings
- Turn on your Chromebook and sign in.
- Select the time in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Select Settings (gear icon).
Step 2: Check for ChromeOS Updates
- In Settings, select About ChromeOS.
- Locate the section displaying your current ChromeOS version.
- Select Check for updates, if available.
- Your Chromebook will check for available updates and may begin downloading them automatically.
Chromebooks typically download ChromeOS updates automatically when connected to the internet. You may only need to restart your device to finish installing an update.
Step 3: Install the Update and Restart
- If an update is available, allow the download to finish.
- Save your work and close any open applications.
- Select Restart when prompted.
- Allow your Chromebook to restart and finish applying the update.
- Sign back in with your PBSD account.
Step 4: Verify Your Chromebook Is Updated
- Open Settings again.
- Select About ChromeOS.
- Check whether your Chromebook reports that it is up to date.
PBSD manages ChromeOS updates and certain device settings. Update availability and installation timing may depend on district management policies.
Do not attempt to bypass district management settings, change update channels, or factory reset your Chromebook to install updates.
