If your Plum Borough School District Chromebook is experiencing technical problems, performing a hardware reset may help resolve the issue.
A hardware reset restarts certain Chromebook hardware components and can help when the device is frozen, unresponsive, or having difficulty starting.
Save any open work if possible and shut down your Chromebook. The following instructions apply to most Chromebooks with a standard keyboard.
Step 1: Turn Off Your Chromebook
- Save any open work, if possible.
- Shut down your Chromebook completely.
- Wait a few seconds before proceeding.
Step 2: Perform the Hardware Reset
- Locate the Refresh key on the top row of your Chromebook keyboard. It looks like a circular arrow.
- Press and hold the Refresh key.
- While holding Refresh, briefly press the Power button.
- When the Chromebook begins starting, release the Refresh key.
- Allow the Chromebook to finish starting normally.
Hold Refresh + Tap Power
Release Refresh when the Chromebook begins starting.

Step 3: Check Your Chromebook
- Allow the Chromebook to start completely.
- Sign in to your district account.
- Check whether the original problem has been resolved.
A hardware reset is different from a factory reset, also called Powerwash. Do not perform a Powerwash or attempt to remove district management unless instructed by PBSD Technology Support.
A hardware reset may also affect some files in your Downloads folder, so save important files to Google Drive when possible.
