Chromebook – Connect to Home Wi-Fi

Modified on Sat, 24 Oct at 2:08 PM

If you are using your Plum Borough School District Chromebook at home, you will need to connect it to your home Wi-Fi network to access online learning resources, Google Classroom, and other district applications.

Before You Begin

Make sure you know your home Wi-Fi network name and password. This information is usually available on your home router or from your internet service provider.

Step 1: Turn On Wi-Fi

  1. Turn on your Chromebook and sign in if prompted.
  2. At the bottom-right corner of the screen, select the time to open Quick Settings.
  3. Select the Wi-Fi or Not connected option.
  4. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned On.
  5. Your Chromebook will automatically search for available wireless networks.
Helpful Tip

If you already see your home Wi-Fi network name and a signal strength indicator, your Chromebook may already be connected.

Step 2: Select Your Home Wi-Fi Network

  1. Find your home Wi-Fi network in the list of available networks.
  2. Select your network name.
  3. If prompted, enter your home Wi-Fi password.
  4. Select Connect.
  5. Wait for the Chromebook to establish a connection.
Important: Use a Trusted Network

When possible, connect to your private, password-protected home Wi-Fi network. Avoid connecting to unfamiliar or unsecured public networks, where your information may be more easily exposed.

Step 3: Verify Your Connection

  1. Look for the Wi-Fi signal icon in the bottom-right corner of your Chromebook.
  2. Open the Google Chrome browser.
  3. Visit a familiar website to confirm your internet connection is working.

Having Trouble Connecting?

If your Chromebook cannot connect to your home Wi-Fi, try the following:

  • Check your password: Make sure you entered the correct home Wi-Fi password.
  • Move closer to your router: A weak wireless signal can prevent a successful connection.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off and back on: Allow the Chromebook to search for available networks again.
  • Restart your Chromebook: Shut down the device and turn it back on.
  • Check other devices: See whether another device in your home can connect to the internet using the same Wi-Fi network.
