Plum Borough School District (PBSD) provides students with district-issued Chromebooks through its One-to-One (1:1) Device Program.
The program supports student learning both inside and outside the classroom by providing access to district-managed technology.
This article explains Chromebook assignments, device replacement schedules, accidental damage fees, replacement chargers, and payment information.
- All students are assigned a district Chromebook.
- Devices are refreshed according to a scheduled replacement cycle.
- Accidental damage fees depend on the number of incidents during the school year.
- Chargers are not covered under the device insurance program.
- Technology fees and payments can be reviewed online.

2. Chromebook Insurance & Accidental Damage Fees
The district's device insurance program uses a tiered fee structure for accidental damage incidents within a single school year.
| Accidental Damage Occurrence | Fee |
|---|---|
| First occurrence | $35 |
| Second occurrence | $50 |
| Third occurrence | $70 |
If a Chromebook experiences four instances of breakage during the same school year, the student loses eligibility for device insurance coverage.
The responsible party must then pay the full applicable repair or replacement cost.
No accidental damage payment is required when a student returns a device without damage.
3. Lost or Stolen Chromebooks
If a district-issued Chromebook is lost or stolen, the replacement cost is based on the fair market value of the device at the time of the incident.
Contact the Technology Department if a district-issued device is missing so that the situation can be reviewed.
4. Chromebook Chargers
Chargers are not covered under the device insurance program.
- Students are responsible for their assigned Chromebook chargers.
- Lost chargers may be purchased through the Technology Department.
- Families may also obtain a compatible charger independently, depending on the Chromebook model.
- A charger must be returned with the Chromebook at the end of its device lifecycle.
Email techsupport@pbsd.net to request information about purchasing a replacement charger from PBSD.
5. How to View Technology Fees & Payment History
Parents and guardians can review technology fees, outstanding balances, and payment history through the district's Community Web Portal.
- Sign in to the Community Web Portal.
- Open My Backpack.
- Select Fees.
- Review any outstanding fees, previous payments, or available receipts.
