Promethean – Using Timer & Spinner

Overview

Promethean Timer and Promethean Spinner are classroom tools that can help teachers manage activities, transitions, selections, and classroom routines.

Depending on the Promethean board in your classroom, these tools may be available as built-in Promethean tools or as applications on the ActivPanel 10 Chromebox.

Teachers using PBSD Promethean boards

Promethean Timer

Promethean Timer provides an easy way to keep classroom activities on schedule.

Teachers can use Timer for:

Independent work
Classroom transitions
Assessments
Group activities
Brain breaks
Classroom routines

Multiple timers can be used simultaneously, allowing teachers to manage more than one classroom activity or group at a time.

Tip: Timer settings can be saved to your Promethean account, making it easier to reuse timers that are part of your regular classroom routines.

Promethean Spinner

Promethean Spinner provides a randomized selection tool that can be used for a variety of classroom activities.

Teachers can use Spinner for:

Randomly selecting students
Choosing groups
Selecting activities
Review games
Discussion questions
Random numbers or choices

Multiple Spinners can be displayed simultaneously, allowing teachers to combine different randomized selections during an activity.

Tip: Spinner settings can be saved to your Promethean account so frequently used lists and selections can be reused.

ActivPanel 10 Users

On an ActivPanel 10 with a Chromebox, open Promethean Timer and Promethean Spinner directly from the ChromeOS shelf.

Sign in to the Chromebox using your PBSD Google account.
Locate Timer or Spinner on the ChromeOS shelf.
Select the application to open it.
Sign in to Promethean if prompted.

Don't See Timer or Spinner? If the applications have not been installed on your Chromebox, follow the ActivPanel 10 – Getting Started & Installing Promethean Apps instructions.

Existing Promethean Board Users

On existing PBSD Promethean boards, Timer and Spinner may be available through the board's built-in Promethean tools.

Open the Promethean tools available on your board and select Timer or Spinner.
