Plum Borough School District (PBSD) is committed to providing students with a safe and responsible digital learning environment.
The district uses technology policies, internet filtering, and student safety monitoring tools to support appropriate technology use and help identify potential online safety concerns.
This resource explains the district's online safety practices and provides helpful information for parents and guardians.
PBSD combines technology safeguards with responsible technology use, education, and communication with families.
No filtering or monitoring system can identify every concern. Students and families should continue to practice safe online behavior and report concerning activity.
District Technology Policies
PBSD has established policies governing the appropriate use of district technology, internet resources, and digital communications.
Families and staff can review the following district policies:
- Policy 815 – Acceptable Use of Internet, Computers, and Network Resources
- Web Site Use and Linking
- Live Stream Video
- District Social Media
Internet Filtering on District Devices
PBSD uses Lightspeed Filter to help protect students while they use district technology resources.
Lightspeed Filter helps the district:
- Restrict access to inappropriate websites and content
- Support safer internet access for students
- Review web activity when safety concerns arise
- Apply district filtering policies to managed devices

Student Safety Monitoring
The district also uses Bark for Schools to support student safety monitoring within supported district Google Workspace services.
Bark is designed to help identify potential concerns involving:
- Cyberbullying
- Self-harm or threats to personal safety
- Other concerning online interactions
These tools support the district's student safety efforts but do not replace direct communication with school personnel.

Internet Safety at Home
Internet safety remains important when students use technology outside of school.
District-managed devices are configured to apply district filtering protections when connected to supported internet networks, including home networks.
District filtering and monitoring tools do not necessarily protect personal devices owned by families.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review home internet settings, discuss responsible online behavior, and establish appropriate technology expectations with their children.
