Keeping your macOS up to date ensures you have the latest features, security improvements, and performance enhancements. However, please only update when the technology department instructs you to do so. Follow the steps below to update your Mac.


Steps to Update macOS

  1. Click the Apple menu  in the top-left corner of your screen.
  2. Select "System Settings".
  3. Click "General" in the sidebar.
  4. Click "Software Update".
  5. If an update is available, click "Install" to begin the update process.
  6. Enter your administrator password when prompted.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Additional Tips

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for the latest macOS version before updating.
  • Enable Automatic Updates: You can set your Mac to automatically install updates by enabling this option in Software Update settings.
  • Mac Restart & Progress Bar: During installation, your Mac may restart multiple times or display a progress bar.
  • Avoid Interruptions: Do not put your Mac to sleep or close the lid while the update is in progress.
  • Post-Update Steps: After installation, log back in to your Mac and ensure everything is working as expected.
